You can now sign in to your LotWorks Account using your Microsoft or Google account, in addition to the email and password you use today. This guide explains how the new sign-in options work, how to use them, and what to do if something doesn't look right.
What's New
- Microsoft and Google are now available as sign-in options on the account.lotworks.ca sign-in page.
- Your existing email and password still work. Nothing is being removed, and you are not required to switch.
- These options exist for convenience: one less password to remember, and faster sign-in using an account you already have.
Before You Start
Your Microsoft or Google account must use the same email address that is on your LotWorks user profile (the email your administrator added). LotWorks connects you to your dashboards by email, so if the addresses don't match, you won't see your dashboards after signing in.
If you're not sure which email is on your profile, you can check it at the top of the page after signing in, or confirm it with your LotWorks system administrator.
How to Sign In with Microsoft or Google
- Go to account.lotworks.ca.
- Select Sign In with Microsoft or Sign In with Google.
- Sign in to, or choose, the Microsoft or Google account that uses your LotWorks email.
- The first time, you may be asked to allow LotWorks to see your name and email address. This is a standard, one-time step.
- You'll be returned to your LotWorks Account, signed in and ready to pick a dashboard.
What Doesn't Change
- Your dashboards, roles, and permissions are unchanged. They still come from the user profile your administrator set up.
- Your password still works, and the Trouble Signing In? reset option is still available.
- Session behaviour is the same: you'll be signed out after 8 hours of inactivity, and Switch User works as before.
Note: You can switch between sign-in methods at any time. Signing in with Google today does not stop you from using your email and password tomorrow.
Requiring Microsoft or Google Sign-In
If you would rather your team sign in exclusively through a single provider, for example to keep all access tied to your company's Microsoft or Google accounts, we can configure that for you.
Once it is enabled, your users will sign in only through the provider you choose, and the other methods, including email and password, will no longer work for your organization.
Note: Before making the switch, we will confirm that everyone in your organization already has a matching Microsoft or Google account, so no one is locked out.
To set this up, or to talk through whether it suits your organization, contact the LotWorks Support Team.
Troubleshooting
You signed in, but no dashboards appear. This almost always means the Microsoft or Google account you used has a different email than the one on your LotWorks profile. Sign out, then sign in using the account or method that matches your profile email. If you're still stuck, contact your LotWorks system administrator to confirm the email on your profile.
Microsoft and Google sign-in don't recognize email aliases. Microsoft and Google identify you by the primary address on your account, not by an alias that forwards to the same inbox. This includes plus-addresses such as name+lotworks@gmail.com, and any secondary or alternate address attached to a Microsoft or Google account.
If your LotWorks profile is set up with an alias rather than your primary address, signing in with Microsoft or Google will use your primary address instead, so it won't match your profile and your dashboards won't appear.
To fix this, make sure the email on your profile is the primary address tied to your Microsoft or Google account. If it needs changing, your LotWorks system administrator can update it.
You see a message that access needs to be approved by your organization. Some organizations require an IT administrator to approve new apps before they can be used. If you see this when choosing Microsoft or Google, contact your IT administrator and ask them to approve LotWorks.
